Christmas approaches

Thursday, December 1st, 2011

Well I guess it’s been long enough that I really should put another post online. I’m sorry I don’t do it more often, but to be honest I get such little feedback about my blogs (and never any comments – that aren’t spam which I filter off before they can even get on the site properly) that it almost feels pointless updating reguarly. But I know there are some people who read it from time to time and I find it quite nice to look back on occasionally as a kind of online diary, so here comes the next installment :-)

Sarah and I went to see Lacuna Coil in Birmingham at the HMV institute in early November which was great to see. I’ve never been to such an intimate gig before. I was probably only about 10 paces away from the stage, and I wasn’t even that close to the front. The front row were only just over an arms reach of a distance away. I put a few pictures of this online on the same evening (my new phone has a nice link in to let me upload almost as soon as I take the photo, if I choose to – which has proven very useful for whilst I was away in France on holiday and for a lot of other smallish events, allowing me to at least keep the photos section of my website very up to date).
St John’s is still going very well too. We’ve been a few more duties, one fireworks night in Rubery – Birmingham and I’ve also been to a Christmas Tree lighting in Bournville, which was pleasant. I’ve not had any significant incidents really happen whilst I’ve been on duty yet (and lets hope it stays that way for the patients sake). The busiest incidents I’ve had have been the Half Marathon through Birmingham where people were coming in with injured knees, which was mostly just a quick treatment with an ice pack and a compression bandage.

I’ve been growing facial hair during November – not for Movember this time, more for my own curiosity of how it might look and how it would grow on me – which has been coming along surprisingly well. I’m sure I wasn’t this hairy last year when I was doing Movember. Now I’m at the spot of trying to decide if I should keep it or get rid of it. I might keep it for a while to see how it plays out, but if it does start to irritate, annoy or itch me then it may have to go. Plus I’m not sure how it would play out with SJA duties as I would imagine it might become an infection control issue. I’m really not sure though as it would be washed with the face and being blond mine will never grow long.

Sarah has already bought our tickets to go to Download 2012 as the lineup has already started to be announced and they have some pretty big names going along. Steve from work is also going to the festival and are going 2 days before the gigs start (when the campsite opens) so we’ve made an agreement that if they can set up our tent for us, so we arent miles away from the arena, then in exchange they can use our tent for the first 2 days (before we arrive) and when we arrive we’ll bring resupplies of various things with us so they dont have to worry about keeping things cold or taking 5 days worth of stuff with them (although I would imagine they will have some emergency items incase anything were to prevent Sarah and I getting there). The risk with Download 2012 is how close it is to the wedding – being in early June.

Also Sarah and I have ordered our joint Christmas present for each other – I’m not going to spoil the surprise to …us… just yet (although we obviously already know). However we are going to collect the XBox from Sarah’s parents house later today, as we had it delivered there so someone could receive the delivery as these always happen during working hours when we are ..well…at work :-)

Huge redesign

Thursday, August 19th, 2010

Hey everyone,

You may have noticed a complete redesign of the website being underway at the moment. It’s mostly complete at the time of writing however there are still a few key pages to change (including the welcome page), however you should find the site has now changed from being mostly text, dull and drab into a much more graphical picture filled website with nice things to look at. For example the games section of the website (as well as being located in a different place due to the restructuring) no longer contains just a textual list of the games that I own / want and instead contains pictures of the cover art for each of the games. Not only does this make the site look a lot better (in my opinion) but for the sakes of Christmas and Birthday lists where people may be looking for a game I have listed myself as interested in, they now know exactly what the box will look like, rather than just having a name to go by.

I hope you all like the new site look and feel, and please bear with me whilst I am upgrading the other pages. However you should never find a page that does not work, so if you manage to come across a broken link, or page that doesnt render correctly or doesnt work please let me know so I can fix these issues as soon as possible. Thanks again

London and Art

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

Sarah and I went to London last weekend to see a friends art exhibit at a gallery in London. Perry set off at midnight on New Years Eve and walked to London over the course of 5 days taking photos along the way, which he then had developed and has created an exhibit out of these pictures. It was a very enjoyable evening evening, and well worth seeing if you wanted to stop by Gallery 320 on Vee Street (off Bethnal Green Road). The exhibit is still running until this Thursday (11th Feb). With advanced train ticket bookings we managed to get a return train to and from London for only £5 (cheaper than a return ticket into Birmingham itself during rush hour), and staying in a hostel in London kept the costs very low indeed. I think the whole trip worked out at around £30 for both of us.

Apart from our trip to London there isn’t much else going on to talk about really. Isaac (my new nephew) is doing well, or so I am told. It’s one of the downsides of being so far away from family, which will probably be quite noticeable if/when I have kids and can’t just pass them on to my parents every now and again to give us a break. But we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it. I haven’t added any pictures of Isaac to the website yet, but I shall do very soon. I could really do with finding a way of adding pictures of the website via my phone, like I can do with facebook. That would help me to keep the website up to date on the pictures front. Unfortunately the ‘Plogger’ program I use doesn’t seem to have any such facility at the moment, however if I hear of any photo blogging software that does develop an iPhone app to allow remote uploading I’ll switch to it on a moments notice.

I’ve started listening to a lot more My Chemical Romance lately. I had heard quite a few of their songs online or on the radio that I enjoyed so I thought I’d try listening to the album, and I have to admit I quite like them. I was quite surprised to find out online that the lead singer is about 34, all the music videos I had seem of them made them look (as I imagine most bands are now becoming) younger than me, or around the same age.

Social secretary

Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010

I have applied (and been accepted) as the social secretary for the choir I sing with in Redditch recently. I’ve been looking through some ideas that I’ve had like a wine tasting evening that is being planned. And a few other things like theater trips and pub trips. I also need to work on a social website for the choir to let people find things quickly and easily. I’ve designed a new logo to go with the website as I had a couple of mins free last night. It’s nothing great, just a simple design but I can’t seem to find any other logo on the main website.

Hopefully the site will be up before too long. I’m wanting to get a loose structure in place which I can then add functionality to over time
