I am currently laying in a big seat at the blood donation clinic on New Street in Birmingham donating platelets. I have to come to the city for this due to the specialised machinery needed to spin and separate the platelets from the blood. However this added complication means that platelet donation takes around 70 minutes to do, during which you can’t move your arm or sleep (obviously). However since they return the blood to your body, and platelets replace themselves quite quickly (5 days I think) it means you can donate once a month rather than 3 times a year. Plus I can sit here and use the free wifi provided ![]()
It doesn’t hurt in any way. If anything it’s slightly more comfortable than a regular whole blood donation due to the smaller needles and nicer chairs

Thursday, February 11th, 2010London and Art
Tuesday, February 9th, 2010Sarah and I went to London last weekend to see a friends art exhibit at a gallery in London. Perry set off at midnight on New Years Eve and walked to London over the course of 5 days taking photos along the way, which he then had developed and has created an exhibit out of these pictures. It was a very enjoyable evening evening, and well worth seeing if you wanted to stop by Gallery 320 on Vee Street (off Bethnal Green Road). The exhibit is still running until this Thursday (11th Feb). With advanced train ticket bookings we managed to get a return train to and from London for only £5 (cheaper than a return ticket into Birmingham itself during rush hour), and staying in a hostel in London kept the costs very low indeed. I think the whole trip worked out at around £30 for both of us.
Apart from our trip to London there isn’t much else going on to talk about really. Isaac (my new nephew) is doing well, or so I am told. It’s one of the downsides of being so far away from family, which will probably be quite noticeable if/when I have kids and can’t just pass them on to my parents every now and again to give us a break. But we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it. I haven’t added any pictures of Isaac to the website yet, but I shall do very soon. I could really do with finding a way of adding pictures of the website via my phone, like I can do with facebook. That would help me to keep the website up to date on the pictures front. Unfortunately the ‘Plogger’ program I use doesn’t seem to have any such facility at the moment, however if I hear of any photo blogging software that does develop an iPhone app to allow remote uploading I’ll switch to it on a moments notice.
I’ve started listening to a lot more My Chemical Romance lately. I had heard quite a few of their songs online or on the radio that I enjoyed so I thought I’d try listening to the album, and I have to admit I quite like them. I was quite surprised to find out online that the lead singer is about 34, all the music videos I had seem of them made them look (as I imagine most bands are now becoming) younger than me, or around the same age.
Social secretary
Wednesday, February 3rd, 2010I have applied (and been accepted) as the social secretary for the choir I sing with in Redditch recently. I’ve been looking through some ideas that I’ve had like a wine tasting evening that is being planned. And a few other things like theater trips and pub trips. I also need to work on a social website for the choir to let people find things quickly and easily. I’ve designed a new logo to go with the website as I had a couple of mins free last night. It’s nothing great, just a simple design but I can’t seem to find any other logo on the main website.
Hopefully the site will be up before too long. I’m wanting to get a loose structure in place which I can then add functionality to over time
