Back to work

Tuesday, December 29th, 2009

Well I hope you had a good Christmas. I had a great time with family and friends. I guess just like everyone I’d rather be at home this week rather than at work, but I do owe this Christmas holiday to Steve after he covered all of Christmas for me last year.
I will be posting thanks for each of my Christmas presents on here soon. I’d just like to get some pics of them in use first though.

Merry Christmas everyone, and fondest wishes for the coming year

Bursts of snow

Friday, December 18th, 2009

There have been bursts of snow lately here in Birmingham. During a very short period of time the weather changed from just cold winds to a huge downpour of snow (really thick, enough to prevent me from seeing the road out of the office window) with strong gusting winds, and the landscape changed very quickly from green grass to a thin layer of white snow (fast enough that I took one phone picture, and before I had finished uploading it to twitter it had become much more pronounced so I took a second photo). Then, almost as quickly as it started the snow suddenly stopped. However it has remained cold enough for more than 30 hours to have now passed and the snow is as thick as it was at the time, with icy patches on the pavement at home and work.

On a different note, Sarah and I are going to a friends house warming party this evening, which we are very much looking forward to. We are heading home first to make some dinner and get changed, then heading out later in the evening for a night of fun, games and drink :-) We were originally planning to head back up to Yorkshire the following morning to take all of our presents up there for my family, however I realised earlier in the week that we had booked tickets to see the Mozart Orchestra performing ‘Carols By Candlelight’ at the Symphony Hall (for which we have tickets right up in the front row) – so plans have been modified and we shall not be setting off until after the concert, however that does mean the journey is likely to be a long one, as its currently expected to snow all over the country during Saturday night, plus the bitter cold temperatures should make icy conditions which will make the end of the journey (across a patch of moor with large drops off the side of the road) much more fun :-) So I cant see us doing much more than 20 or 30 mph down those roads (rather than the limit of 60).

Christmas is nearly here

Tuesday, December 15th, 2009

Well Christmas is nearly here again, so Sarah and I had a big christmas present wrapping session on Sunday night to get all the presents we currently have (which is most of them to be fair) wrapped and ready for delivery this weekend on our trip back to yorkshire.

This was shortly after the manic concerts weekend, with a Carol concert on Friday, Saturday and Sunday with the Bel Canto choir. All the concerts went pretty well, and it was very Christmassy, despite being quite tiring :-) . We’ve also got most of our cards written now (although I would like to pop out to get some nice cards for family before the weekend)

Had the realisation earlier in the week that there is only 1 week and a few days left until Christmas now. I can’t believe it is so close again. The years seem to fly by. Unfortunately I’m in a weird limbo of Christmas feeling. When I come to work, it doesnt feel especially Christmassy (although there are decorations up in the aisles), however when I get home and see our tree and decorations and how much Sarah and I are making of our first Christmas together, then I feel really happy and excited about Christmas. I think I’m quite looking forward to having a few days off work. Unfortunately I only have a ‘long weekend’ for Christmas (using the statuatory days) rather than a whole week or two off. Not that I didnt have the spare time/holiday days to take it all off, but I have had 2 years of Christmas holidays now, which has meant that Steve has had to be in work for them (as one of us needs to be in to support KATS at all times), so it was only fair that Steve takes this Christmas off and I work through. – Oh the joys of the working world
